A side job for young people, very useful!

Many young people have a part-time job to make ends meet. However, this is by no means the only reason why it is wise to go to work. There is more than just money. The various reasons for young people to take a part-time job are discussed in this article.

The earnings

Of course, the main reason to go to work is to make money. You go out at the weekend, you want to buy something tasty at school and of course you want to go shopping. The time when your parents paid for this for you is long gone and your saved capital is starting to run out. A part-time job can quickly earn you money if you do it 1 or 2 days a week. The income you generate from this is entirely yours, you can decide what to do with it. Money is not only needed for weekly expenses, but it is also wise to put some of it aside for savings. This way you can make nice purchases in the future, such as a computer or perhaps a car.

With a part-time job you learn all the aspects that you will later need for a real job. For example, it is necessary to write an application letter and leave a good impression at a job interview. You will also learn how a company or restaurant is managed if you are part of it yourself. If you are experienced in a certain sector, for example the catering industry, you will be able to get more fun jobs there later, such as bartender or waiter instead of dishwasher at the age of 20. It is also true that these smaller jobs also look good on your CV. If you enter the labor market after your studies or training, people can see on your CV that you are willing to work and also take on the less fun jobs. This increases the chance of a good job later.

You can make contact with many people through a part-time job. For example, you can maintain contact with the branch manager of an Albert Heijn, or a member of the management of Golden Tulip. This will all work to your advantage later and it is of course always useful to have a broad network, you may end up back in a management position at such a company. Of course you don’t just want to get in touch with the bigwigs, you also want to get to know other people your age. A job is very suitable for this, after all you work together and will have to spend a few hours together. This creates a bond between them and perhaps a good friendship will result from this.

Time commitment

This may not be the main reason for looking for a job, but it is true. If school comes easy to you and you don’t exercise every day, you will still want to fill your days with fun. A part-time job is ideal, so you can work in a restaurant for an evening or you can work at the local supermarket where you will fill shelves or work behind the cash register for a number of afternoons. This way you spend your time well. Above you can read all the benefits of a job.

Possible jobs

As a young person you cannot yet get a job with the ideal employers. You are simply not yet of the age for this, or you are not available all day because of school. What remains are not top jobs, but still fun to do.

  • Supermarket:

Here you can work as a shelf stacker or cashier, after a few years you can also work your way up within the company. The salary in supermarkets is not very high, but on the other hand it is often not difficult and you are working with people of your own age. You will also often be able to indicate when you want to work, and it will only cost you a few hours a day.

  • Catering industry:

this is where you will probably end up doing the dishes at first. Later you can move on to the kitchen or service. The salary in the catering industry is on average quite high, you often have to work hard and you work long days and it can sometimes be late at night. Here too you will meet a lot of nice other people.

  • Newspaper district:

This is ideal for young people who do not want to invest a lot of time in a part-time job and still want to earn a nice income. You deliver the newspapers on a fixed day, but you can pay for the time and pace yourself. The earnings are often quite good, but you will only work once a week, so your monthly salary will not be very high. On the other hand, you can of course fill your pockets around Christmas with the well-known Christmas cards. With a bit of luck you can make a nice purchase with the proceeds.
