Dental insurance? Dental rates 2020 and 2021

The rates for dentists and orthodontists are increasing, what will you pay for dentist treatment in 2020 and 2021? For a while, dental rates were completely free, until the government intervened because the dentist only became more expensive. Dental insurance as additional insurance also became a lot more expensive. On average there was an increase of 14 percent. Dental care for young people aged 18 and over has not been reimbursed by basic insurance for several years. The rates will increase less rapidly in 2020 and 2021, but they will still rise.

  • Do the premiums for dental insurance outweigh the reimbursements?
  • Dental insurance included in additional health insurance

No more reimbursement for the dentist for young people

Reimbursement from the basic insurance for the dentist is not included in the basic package. As a result, more people are taking out dental insurance. After all, everyone needs a dentist sometimes and the dentist is not cheap. The insurance companies notice this in the dental costs. Dental insurance is increasingly becoming a loss for the insurer.

Do the premiums for dental insurance outweigh the reimbursements?

Dental insurance is often neglected. It is often said that you will not recover the costs, but the opposite turns out to be true. Especially if you go for check-ups more often and more actions need to be performed. You can insure yourself for this. You often insure yourself for a maximum amount per year. Say 250, 500, 1,000 or 1,500 euros per year.

Dental insurance included in additional health insurance

Many insurance policies are offered to cover the costs of the dentist. Often with names like tooth1 and tooth2, toothfit, module A, module B, tooth healthy, tooth cool, you name it. Sometimes good dental insurance is also included in an additional package. Take a look and compare:

  • Delta Lloyd;
  • ONVZ;
  • Menzis;
  • OHRA;
  • VGZ;
  • Silver Cross;
  • The Amersfoortse.

Take out dental insurance or not?

To see whether dental insurance is right for you, you can list which treatments you expect and compare these expenses with the insurance premium. Keep in mind that the most expensive insurance with the highest reimbursement often also requires a dental certificate or health certificate.

Obligation to accept dental insurance

An insurance company only has an obligation to accept everything that is included in the basic insurance and therefore not for additional insurance such as dental insurance. On the other hand, you may take out dental insurance with a different health insurer than the one with which you have basic health insurance. This way you can still choose the cheapest offer.
